The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the standard annual income of police detectives and investigators was $75,720 as of May 2011, and that detectives made $36.41 an hour on average. The top 10 percent of employees in terms of annual income made at least $122,290 a year, although the bottom 10 percent earned up to $39,660.Some of all detectives earned an annual salary between $51,060 and $94,620.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) noted in May 2014 that detectives and criminal investigators had a norm annual income of $79,870 ( In comparison, reported in September 2015 that police detectives had a norm salary of $56,059. The BLS also had pay estimates for detectives and criminal investigators at the bottom ten percent and the top ten percent. If you were in the lowest ten percent, then you only earned $40,780 or less. Those in the uppermost ten percent of wage estimates had annual incomes of $127,400 or additional.
